Tips For Filing A Successful Complaint (by Complaint Girl™)

Use the following tips to make your next complaint a successful one.

  1. Bullet  Locate The Fixer
    Before telling your story, assure that you are speaking to with the person who can fix the problem.  There is nothing more frustrating than explaining your situation over and over again.

  2. Bullet  Organize the Details
    Before filing a complaint, make sure that you have all pertinent information and that it is organized and ready for presentation.  This is your turn in court and you want to be ready!

  3. Bullet  Don’t Snowball
    Be a fair consumer and stick with the problem at hand.  Consumers don't deserve to be tricked and neither do businesses.  Be totally honest and only ask for solutions that are fair and reasonable.

  4. Bullet  Specify the Resolution
    Always state what you are seeking as resolution.  If a refund is what you would like, state that.  Think of your ideal resolution.

  5. Bullet  Keep Notes
    Notes are important.  Jot down any pertinent information relating to the complaint.  Include the names of anyone you speak with, the time and day of communication, names of witnesses, copies of correspondence, statements, receipts, etc.

  6. Bullet  Retain Evidence
    Always keep a full paper trail of the situation until it is completely resolved.

  7. Bullet  Follow-up For Closure
    Own the complaint.  In a perfect world, the business would follow-up with you.  Our world is not perfect and subsequently it is our responsibility as the consumer to follow-up on the business and make sure they are doing as they promised and making things right when necessary.  Stay firm!
